Managing Results Through People – From July 12th 2021

Morning Team and a very Happy Monday!

After another busy week, here’s a few thoughts of what was going on in my world last week:

What I LEARNED

I spent quite a lot of last week watching, reading and listening to various sports content. What I love about sport is the alignment sport has with business, as I feel the two are closely linked. Both have a goal or objective. Both tend to have a leadership or management team of some description and both tend to be about managing results through other people, whether that be teams or individuals. Sometimes things don’t always go your way, and you don’t get the result you wanted, but I’m a firm believer that with the right mindset, you either win or learn – you never really lose. Its through the adversity and perceived loss that you can become stronger, through learning from setbacks.

Although it’s been nice watching  countries come together for the Euro’s, I learned that I will definitely not miss ‘THAT’ England anthem!

What I LIKED

Last week I listened to a podcast with the ex-Captain of the British & Irish Lions, a rugby team made up from players across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, who play once every 4 years. For the professional rugby player, it’s the pinnacle of your career to be selected. What I loved about this ex-captains account of playing for the Lions, was not only his humility, but how he viewed his game management and outlook of dealing with the referee in order to ensure the odds landed on his side. He talks about 2 things he believes in when managing the referee:

·        Treat others how you would want to be treated yourself.

·        Less is more.

What I liked about this, was even in a sport like rugby,  you don’t need to be the biggest, or loudest to get the results or outcome you want.

A little something to put a smile on your face as we enter the week. This song always makes me smile and puts me in a good mood, so I hope it does for you too.
