Morning Team.
I hope you all had a nice weekend.
Here is what was going on in my world (and head), from last week:
What I LEARNED
Now that we have more freedom to travel post lockdown, I’ve wanted to make the most of this opportunity by ensuring I get to visit each of the three Samsung Ads hubs (Paris, Madrid, Dusseldorf), before the end of the year.
Last week I had the good fortune to travel to Dusseldorf to connect with the DACH team which was my last trip of the year (as far as I’m aware!). Over the weekend I was reflecting on my trips, and it made me realize how lucky and grateful I am to be able to visit these amazing cities, and connect with the teams not based in London. You learn so much from being present and having the human connection, that you never get on a VC call. The other aspect of these trips is how you learn about local cultures and traditions which I always find fascinating. As I have always believed, and say to my children, travelling is the University of life.
Last week the DACH team organized a number of events to embrace local traditions whilst I was there, such as the Christmas Market, testing local delicacies with a wonderful breakfast spread organized by the German CSMs, and even watch Germany play in the World Cup, although I won’t mention the score 😉
What I learned is how fortunate I am to be able to travel, and to have such an amazing team to work with. It’s not that I didn’t know this already, but the power of being present with someone in person makes it even more special.
Next year I hope we can all spend more time in person together, something I am planning at the moment, starting in Jan (all being well).
What I LIKED
I started listening to a podcast about Stoicism recently and it really resonated for me.
Stoicism is a school of philosophy that hails from ancient Greece and Rome in the early parts of the 3rd century, BC. It is a philosophy of life that maximizes positive emotions, reduces negative emotions and helps individuals to hone their virtues of character. If you want to find out more then here are a couple of podcasts Ive listened to recently to learn more about the topic:
Final thought
