Morning Team.
I hope you had a nice weekend with whatever you were doing. Here’s what’s been on my mind over the past week.
What I LOVED
Last week I took 4 days annual leave to spend time with the family during half term. Although we did not travel anywhere, just to spend some quality time at home was well worth the 4 days.
With working weeks being so busy, it can be easy to let weekends and evenings pass by without being properly present, especially due to constant work items being on my mind. That’s not to say I didn’t think about work related items last week though!
The highlights for me from last week which I loved, was playing Chess, tennis and cards with my son one day, followed by watching my daughter perform at a regional dance competition on stage the next. I also got to take Harry to his first football match at Stamford Bridge, despite the result, he absolutely loved it. The look on his face as we took our seats to watch the players warm up pre-match was priceless and a memory I will treasure.
What I LEARNED
Love him or loath him, I listened to a High Performance Podcast last week with Gordon Ramsay. I’m not sure what I expected, but I must say it was a genuinely very interesting insight into the man you see shouting at people on camera.
What I learned from listening to this was not only how we has had to bounce back from constant adversity throughout his life, but how his view of success is very similar to our own world. He talks about really understanding your customer, and to start by understanding what is the ultimate taste. Once you know what this taste is, you can then work backwards to figure out how to cook it consistently in a scalable manner that delights customers.
Starting with the customer and working backwards is something that was drilled into me at Amazon, but is something I think we do quite naturally here. When I think about the success we have had this year, its very much been from listening and understanding our customers needs, and building or servicing them to solve their business challenges.
The final piece I learned and liked from the interview is how you you need jeopardy in your life to be successful, and the importance of going with your gut and backing yourself. Easier said than done I know. If you want to listen yourself, then check out the High Performance Podcast on any podcast platform or listen on the link below:
What I LIKED
A quote from James Clear who wrote the book Atomic Habits. For those of you not familiar, “Atomic Habits” is a transformative guide that unlocks the secrets to harnessing the power of small habits for massive, long-term change. I subscribe to his weekly email, and this week there was a quote that resonated so I wanted to share with you:
“When you tolerate an error, you rob yourself of learning.
When you ruminate on an error, you rob yourself of happiness.
Notice it, improve it, and move on from it.”
Final thought

Here is some music to kick start your week (and a reminder that clocks went back over the weekend ;-).
Have a successful week everyone.
