Seeing through the Fog – From January 29th 2024.

Happy Monday everyone!

Here are some reflections over the previous few weeks of what’s been on my mind.

What I LEARNED

I don’t know about you, but at the beginning of the year, I was full of hope and excitement about what this year would bring and couldnt wait to get started. But the reality has not turned out the way I foresaw it to be.

I have felt like like I’ve had some kind of fog surrounding me, almost limiting my self belief and taking away the excitement that I was feeling about what this year would bring. I’m not sure if it was the reality of going back to work, or the changes that have been taking place within the workplace, but something was definitely missing.

In order to try to overcome this fogginess I was feeling, I started to think about my core 3 areas of purpose in my life, to be happy, make others happy, and be the best version of myself that I can be. It turned out that all 3 areas of my purpose were not being addressed, and hence the feeling that I was in.

I guess this is the beauty of having a purpose and set of core values that are personal to you, as you can refer back to these in times where you might be wondering why you are feeling in a certain way. Thats been the main learning for me anyway.

I’m pleased to say that I feel that I am coming out of this fog, and can start to see the light of positivity that I had at the beginning of the year. I’ve done this through focusing on the things that make me happy, as well as making time for my own self development.

Have you ever thought about your values or purpose? If not, then I would recommend making time to think about this. Here is a tool you can use to get started: https://www.viacharacter.org/

What I LOVED

I loved the fact that I was lucky enough to connect with close friends who live in Dubai. I do not get to see these friends very often, and so when an opportunity came along to go to the Middle East on a work trip, it was a perfect opportunity for me to take advantage and prolong my visit in order to see them.

Not only was it great to see them and connect, I also loved feeling some sun and winter warmth on my skin. I’ve never been to Dubai at this time of year before, but now that I have, I can thoroughly recommend it. The temperature is perfect!

I definitely think I have Seasonal Affective Disorder having come back to the UK and been battered by storms and cold spells. This probably added to the fog I have been feeling as well.

What I LIKED

I liked an article I read about reverse bucket lists, which considers the impact of embracing a “reverse bucket list.” While traditional bucket lists often focus on future aspirations and goals, a reverse bucket list invites us to reflect on and appreciate the accomplishments and experiences we’ve already amassed.

This shift in perspective not only cultivates gratitude but also serves as a powerful tool for self-reflection and personal growth. By acknowledging and celebrating past achievements, we gain a deeper understanding of our values, strengths, and the meaningful journey that has brought us to where we are today.

In essence, the reverse bucket list becomes a compass guiding us towards more purposeful and fulfilling paths, reinforcing the idea that wisdom often lies not just in looking forward but also in appreciating the richness of the present and the lessons embedded in our unique histories.
