Seasons of Change & Rekindling the Love of Learning – From 24th March 2025.

Happy Monday everyone!

Here are some of my recent reflections from over the past few weeks that I hope will inspire, inform, and spark new ideas in your world.

What Iβ€˜ve LEARNED

The evenings are slowly stretching out, and the sun is making its presence known with greater frequency. Ah, spring is around the corner. For me, there’s always been something uniquely refreshing about springβ€”a transitional bridge from the darker, colder winter months into the brighter, warmer days of summer.

This sense of seasonal transition resonates deeply with me right now, as I embark on my own personal journey from the familiar comforts of the corporate world into something far less certain. Given the current state of global affairs and economic instability, you might rightly wonder: Why make such a leap now? Well, I’ve distilled it down to three compelling reasons.

  1. Timeβ€”our most precious and yet often undervalued asset. Regular readers of Monday Morning Musings know how much I value the finite nature of time. It might sound clichΓ©, but life isn’t a dress rehearsal. This is it, right here, right now. I recognise that there’s a window of opportunity for me to act. If I don’t seize it now, I fear that I never will. The thought of future regret outweighs the safety of inaction.

2. The Power of Dreams. Ever since childhood, I’ve had aspirations of starting my own business. My mum recently found and sent me a business letter head that I designed as a young boy on my Amstrad CPC464 Desktop Computerβ€”most of you might need to pause here and Google that to fully appreciate how far back this dream goes. The letterhead was for my own fictional company. What started as a youthful fantasy is now within reach, begging me to turn possibility into reality.

3. Support. Finally, there’s the unwavering Support of those around me. Transitioning careers is daunting, yet throughout my journey towards this decision, I’ve been buoyed by the belief, encouragement, and love from my incredible wife, kids, parents, close friends, and colleagues. Their belief in me has been instrumental and deeply humbling. I truly couldn’t do this without them.

As I stand on this threshold, the seasonal shift serves as a powerful metaphor for my career change. I anticipate sunny days filled with growth and satisfaction, yet I’m fully aware that storms will inevitably arise. However, bolstered by the steadfast support of those around me, I’m confident in weathering whatever comes my way.

Time, Dreams, and Supportβ€”these three elements are guiding me through this exciting transition.

How do they play a role in your own life??

What I’ve LIKED

Have you ever that feeling of excitement from learning something new? As children, our curiosity drove us naturally. Yet, somewhere between exams, deadlines, and responsibilities, many of us lost that joyful spark of discovery.

Recently, I’ve found myself reconnecting with that feelingβ€”and it’s been surprisingly energizing. Taking on new learning adventures, exploring different topics, and stepping outside my comfort zone has awakened a part of my brain I hadn’t fully appreciated in years.

There’s genuine joy in rekindling the learner’s mindset. It reminds us we’re never too old, experienced, or busy to start again, reshape our thinking, and enjoy the simple thrill of expanding our horizons.

What about youβ€”when was the last time you truly embraced learning something new and gave your brain the excitement it craves?

What I’ve LOVED

There’s nothing quite as heartwarming as witnessing genuine passion in a Teacher who plays an important role in our children’s lives. Recently, during a parents’ evening, I experienced one of these special moments. Listening to a teacher speak with immense enthusiasm about teaching my daughter, sharing stories of her efforts, determination, and their deep desire for her success, filled me with immense pride and gratitude.

It reminded me how transformative it can be when someone truly believes in the potential of our children. Teachers, mentors, friends, and family membersβ€”they inspire, encourage, and celebrate progress, no matter how big or small.

Seeing the spark in this teacher’s eyes as they described the joy of watching my daughter learn and grow was a powerful reminder of the profound impact one person’s belief can have. Recognizing and nurturing potential truly does change lives, and the manner in which I could see it made him happy and fulfilled was infectious.

The ability to help others is a trait that is so often undervalued in the modern world, but one that is truly special and critical.

We all remember that one teacher or person who has helped us on our journey to where we are not. Who was yours?

  1. A couple of weeks ago I went to the funeral of my favourite teacher. What was particularly special – as is often the case in these circumstances – was that the family of the teacher were learning how much their father/husband had meant to people and the impact he’d had on them, a fact that they knew deep down must have happened but had never had it articulated to them at such a scale.

    1. Thank you for sharing that Charlie. I’m sure his family must have been proud of the impact the had on so many people, and no doubt grateful that you were there to pay your respects.
